At 8,264 square kilometers, the lake is so expansive that it actually causes a meteorological anomaly colloquially known as the Lake Nicaragua Effect, in which the lake is perfectly placed inland that it helps facilitate the continental crossing of the world’s trade winds from Nicargua’s Caribbean Coast to its Pacific Coast.

Pacific Coast
